New Haven’s East Rock neighborhood has a rich tradition of beer brewing, with German immigrants setting up breweries along the Mill River over a century ago. Much more recently, the East Rock Brewing Company officially joined that history.
This small, family-owned microbrewery and beer garden is located in the newly refurbished industrial building on Mitchell Drive (close to the historic Miller’s Garden). The interior features plenty of natural light, long rows of bench seating, and a horseshoe-shaped bar where you can sample beer that’s brewed on site. Reviewers say the best way to find your favorite is to order a tasting flight (or two—at $8 apiece, it can be hard to stop at just one). The beer hall features three standard brews (a pilsner, weisse, and a lager), a few seasonal rotating beers, and a handful of exclusives only available on-site.
