Carmines Di Vega has only been open for a few months, but this New Haven restaurant has already gained a loyal following, thanks to its home-like atmosphere and chef Miguel "Mikey" Vega's traditional-yet-modern menu.
If you visit for dinner you might start with a plate of broccoli rabe with fennel sausage, or maybe grilled eggplant layered with roasted red peppers and mozzarella drizzled with olive oil and balsamic. You might follow that up with a plate of gnocchi pomodora or a serving of the kitchen's specialty, pappardelle alla Vega (egg noodles with lobster meat, shrimp, and asparagus in a brandy and tomato sauce). There's also an extensive kids menu, which can makes this restaurant a good choice on busy weeknights when you want to take the whole family out for dinner, rather than spend an hour in the kitchen.
