The air may be finally getting cooler after a fun three months of summer, however, that’s no reason to stay indoors – there are tons of fall activities happening this month, especially in a city near so much natural beauty like New Haven.
One favorite September pastime is, of course, apple picking, and near your 360 State apartment there are more than enough orchards to get your fill of Granny Smith, Mackintosh and Red Delicious for baking apple pies, apple crumbles or even just having a snack.
Bishop’s Orchards, located at 1355 Boston Post Rd, Guilford which is about 15 minutes from your 360 State apartment, takes pride in growing the highest quality fruits to enjoy year after year. All the fresh products are available either seasonally at the Pick Your Own (PYO) locations and/or annually at the farm market.
The summer sun shining down on the orchards provides an ideal location to spend part of the day to enjoy the fun of picking your own quality fruit directly from the bushes or trees. Each year the PYO season may vary due to weather and crop abundance, yet generally runs from mid-June until the end of October.
Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard, located at 278 Leavenworth Rd, Shelton which is about 30 minutes from your 360 State apartment, have planted thousands of dwarf and semi-dwarf apple trees in their fields for their Pick-Your-Own orchard. The trees will only grow to a maximum of 10 to 12 feet for easy picking.
This month, look out for varieties such as Gala, Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Cortland and Liberty, which are all in their prime seasons in September at Beardsley’s Cider Mil and Orchard.
