As we all know Mother Nature can be fickle, so why not make the most of this fantastic summer weather and enjoy outdoor activities in New Haven.
Take in East Rock Park, a great place for outdoor recreation! Take your bicycle out on the paved roads, hike along the 10 miles worth of trails, or canoe on the Mill River. If you have your fishing license, have a good time fishing and crabbing (best during July, August and September). For more family friendly activities, fly a kite or pack a picnic basket and relax at one of the two picnic pavilions. Picnic tables and charcoal grills are located through College Woods and atop the summit of East Rock. Children will have fun in the fenced-in playgrounds located in College Woods and near the Cedar neighborhood at the south end of Rice Field. Cedar playground even features a spray pool! Regardless of what you end up doing, any of the activities at East Rock Park are guaranteed to be a great way to enjoy the summer.
Also check out Lighthouse Point Carousel, one of New Haven’s off-the-beaten-track wonders. Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, you can ride the carousel, walk the boardwalk and enjoy a bite to eat at the Shore Shack. With a stunning view of Long Island Sound and New Haven Harbor, Lighthouse Point is the place to be. Walk the paths along the shore, grill and have a picnic with the family. Built in 1916, the carousel is a wonderful piece of local New Haven history, we’re sure you’ll find it utterly charming.
