Shake Shack is a sleek modern interpretation of the traditional roadside burger stand, and it’ll likely only take one visit to this New Haven eatery to understand why it’s so popular among 360 State residents. The food is simple and classic: hot dogs, burgers, and frozen custard dominate the menu board. Try pairing a bacon-topped cheeseburger with a hand-spun vanilla shake for a traditional combination, or shake things up a bit by heaping crisp-fried onions and cheddar on an all-beef hot dog with a side of crinkle cut fries. Beer and wine are both available to help you wash things down.
The dining room is spacious and airy, and its walls are lined with wood from salvaged bleachers seats from Yale Bowl. The place is often busy, though, so if you want to really take your time and enjoy a leisurely meal, you might time your visit for off-peak hours.
