360 State nature enthusiasts love the Barnard Nature Center for providing a glimpse into the diverse ecosystem of the West River Watershed. This green building is located inside of West River Memorial Park, and its purpose is to educate children in the New Haven area about the natural world around them. The state-of-the-art classroom inside the facility houses after-school, weekend, and summer activities that offer a closer look at nature, and because the nature center is so close to the park, kids are able to access the playing fields and outdoor areas that are essential to learning about the area’s ecosystem.
Perhaps the most interesting aspects of the Barnard Nature Center, however, are the amphibians and reptiles that live inside. The center is the perfect place for children to learn about nature while also getting a close-up look at strange creatures that they would normally only see in a zoo.
